Visionary Realist: being spiritual in a capitalist world
I balance being employed at one of the world’s largest banks with still being a spiritual person. In fact, there’s a post-it on my computer to remind me that every call is an interaction, not just a transaction. This is not in the training manual, nor in the script for my sales calls. To me, it’s the imperative of being real and decent to people who are calling in to ask for my help with their personal financial needs.
I’m told that the nuns say, after a spiritual encounter, you have to go scrub the pots. It’s a reminder that all of the retreats and meditation and seeking needs to be grounded in the day-to-day as well. And even scrubbing pots can be holy work. Judaism is all about elevating the mundane through conscious attention — miracles and other amazing things happen all the time, but if you don’t stop and really notice them and be appreciative, you remain ignorant of their existence.
So blend the unusual pairing of visionary and realist, or spiritual and capitalist or pick your own seemingly disparate words, and see how you can invent your authentic way of being. Want some support for this journey? Give me a call…one on one or group training available.
