Comfort Shawls: Embracing the Cycle of Love and Loss
We witness it every day. People we care about get a diagnosis, lose a loved one, find themselves overwhelmed with grief and sadness, and we are left wondering what we can do. This two-three hour workshop is designed to strengthen community while creating a “hug that lasts” in the form of a unique and beautiful “Comfort Shawl.”
Participants are guided to share stories of love and loss, and then create symbols to appliqué onto the shawl, and finally bless the shawl as it goes into the world to carry healing to all who are embraced by it. These shawls have been created for specific individuals, clergy pastoral use, classrooms, Sisterhoods and families to commemorate and to celebrate life-cycle events. Groups of friends or members of a congregation, men, women and children have all experienced love and loss, and all enjoy the positive outcome of creating a Comfort Shawl.
