Songwriting as a teaching technique

When I started writing the family birthday and anniversary tribute songs, I wrote parodies to existing songs (apparently, my grandmother had done this for years before me). Then, one day, I was asked to sing at a friend’s wedding — and as I looked through the typical wedding songs, I realized nothing fit this situation and out of this need, A Family Blessing was created. You can listen to the song on “We Are All Connected”

As a religious school teacher for many years, I found that the best way to summarize a lesson was to hook it to a song – one that we created together was even better.

Songwriting is not that complicated, even for a non-musician. My workshop can help you see how quickly you can go from idea to reality with a group of students of all ages using very simple tools of rhythm and rhyme, melody and meaning. This workshop is excellent for staff development and teacher training.
